Affiliate Disclosure

Superfoods Advisor participates in affiliate programs. This is how, and why we think it does not corrupt the editorial work.

What "affiliate" means

Some outbound links on this site — typically to specific products or retailers — are affiliate links. If you click one and make a purchase, the site may receive a small commission at no additional cost to you. This applies primarily to product review pages, not to encyclopedia entries or cited scientific literature.

How products are chosen

Products discussed in the reviews section are selected before affiliate relationships are considered. Selection criteria — in this order — are:

  1. Third-party testing. Certificate of Analysis available; heavy-metal, pesticide, and microbial testing published or provided on request.
  2. Certifications. NSF Certified for Sport, USP Verified, Informed Sport, Non-GMO Project, organic (USDA or equivalent), fair-trade — where relevant to the product category.
  3. Ingredient quality. Standardized extracts where research uses standardized extracts (e.g. KSM-66 ashwagandha, Meriva curcumin); documented species and part-of-plant (fruiting body vs. mycelium); no unnecessary fillers.
  4. Cost per effective serving. Not cost per unit — cost per gram of the studied active ingredient at the studied dose.
  5. Manufacturer transparency. Sourcing disclosed, GMP-certified facility, contact info that leads to actual humans.

Whether a product has an affiliate program is not a selection criterion. If a well-tested, appropriately-certified product with no affiliate program beats an affiliate-linked one on the criteria above, the non-affiliate product gets the recommendation.

Editorial independence

Manufacturers do not pay for a place in a ranking and do not influence which products are compared or how they are scored. If a product we previously recommended is later shown to fail third-party testing or misrepresent its formulation, the recommendation is updated or removed.

Sponsored content

We sometimes publish content paid for by a brand: about a reputable product we were approached with, or a campaign or promotion from a brand already covered on the site. Sponsored content is always labeled as sponsored at the top of the page. We write it and keep the final say on what it says; the brand can check facts about its own product. It follows the same evidence and health-claim standards as everything else here, and it never changes a product's position or score in a review.

What we do not do

Amazon Associates and other programs

Where the site is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program (an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com), the required disclosure is provided here in full.
